Power Saw Operator Safety Course- Jul 29 &30, 2019 - NC19SAF040X02
In this class and field course participants will cover the following training modules of WCB’s Falling & Bucking Training Standard.

Module 3 Personal Protective Equipment (leg protection requirements, etc)
Module 6 Chainsaw Maintenance (cutters and depth gauges)
Module 7 Safe Saw Handling (kickbacks, grip, balance, stance)
Module 12 Bucking & Limbing (compression and tension wood)

Field training covers routine bar/chain maintenance (chain tension, sharpening and depth gauge maintenance), an evaluation of available protective equipment and a review of safe start-up procedures.

Analysis of tension and compression wood allows for proper sequencing of cuts for bucking, limbing and slashing work. The KICKBACK HAZARD will be discussed and demonstrated. Boring, an advanced and required bucking skill, will also be discussed, demonstrated and practised by those who have demonstrated a basic level of competence for bucking and limbing.

Information and Requirements
Students must bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): steel toed boots, chaps, a hard hat/face screen and ear protection. Students must also provide their own transportation to the field site. Other items to note: • Students are issued a Power Saw Operation and Safety Training Ticket that is good for 4 years • The course is taught by BCFS-endorsed instructors • Students must bring Government issued ID with them to the course
